Life Goals over New Years Resolutions

2016 has been one of my roughest years to date, even so, I know there are people who have had it much worst, not just this year but for several years.

So with only a few more weeks left in the year, I started thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2017.

In doing some research I stumbled on an important fact; our New Years Goals need to align with our Life Goals in order to be meaningful/successful.

Think about it, how do we make New Years Resolutions? 1st of January we arbitrarily decide on a set of goals for the year. Then we jump right in all excited and motivated. This is when gym memberships spikes and you see people starting the bootcamps and diet plans, but by March its all over.

Lets try something a little different.

Decide on Life Goals… this is everything you want to accomplish before you die

My first step was to brainstorm some ideas and came up with a list of things that I’ve always wanted to do or thought about over the years.

  1. Be Healthy
  2. Be Happy
  3. Have Financial Freedom
  4. Get Married & have a Family
  5. Have a successful Career
  6. Make a difference in My community, Country or The World
  7. Start a company
  8. Travel the world
  9. Write a book
  10. Learn a 2nd language
  11. Continue to grow & evolve as a person
  12. Positively impact people around

This list  doesn’t have some pretty broad categories so my next step would be to start narrowing this down into yearly and monthly goals, which I can narrow down further into weekly and daily actions.

As it stands right now its pretty broad, but you will see me expand on several of these in future posts.

While 2016 has indeed been a rough year for me, I intend to extract the positive and be a better person because of it.

What are your goals for 2017?
